Notes for making something useful with Codex

Start with something you wish was easier.

Find where you are in the build.

You will move backwards as often as you move forwards. That is normal. Choose the question that is most useful now.

Choose by the job, not the jargon.

Plugins extend what Codex can reach. Skills teach it a repeatable way to work. Settings decide its defaults and boundaries.

Plugins

Connections to tools, data and actions. A plugin may also bundle skills.

Skills

Reusable instructions for a specific kind of work. They make good methods repeatable.

Settings

Choices about models, permissions and what Codex should remember about how you work.

1 · Open Plugins

In ChatGPT, open the Plugins tab and search for the plugin by name.

2 · Add it

Open its details, select the + button, then connect or approve access if asked.

3 · Start fresh

Open a new Codex chat after installation so the plugin is available to that task.

4 · Call it

Describe the task normally, or type @ and choose the plugin when you want to be explicit.

No tool matches that search. Try the job you need done instead of a product name.

The tools can speed up the work. You still decide what matters.

Bring the audience insight, the source material, the constraints and your taste. Ask Codex to show its work when the result matters.
